Jameela Jamil Confirms Having A Rare Disorder Called ‘Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome’
Actress and presenter Jameela Jamil rose to fame after her appearance in the fantasy-comedy series The Good Place. More recently, she has been in the spotlight for her work as a body positivity activist than her acting endeavors. She has always believed in being transparent about her life experiences and continuing that she even shared having a tissue disorder which is extremely rare.
The star, who previously talked about her past struggle regarding an eating disorder, has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) that results in loose skin by increasing its elasticity and overly flexible joints.
A gene alteration inside the tissues leads to EDS, and it often continues from one to another generation. The intensity and symptoms vary from person to person, but one thing is common for all – there is no ultimate cure, and the only option is for managing the pain caused by the injuries that happen from the disorder.
For the individuals with this syndrome, it is advised by the healthcare experts to avoid situations that may lead to injury. Activities like weightlifting and contact sports that are tough on joints are extremely restricted for people having EDS.
Jameela is also a professional model and these days she has been collaborating with companies who use unretouched pictures of models. She took on the project after her online movement I Weigh turned successful through which she encourages everyone for opening up about the things that are special about them.
Through I Weigh, she has formed a group that works together on spreading happiness and cheering on each other. Jameela describes it as a supportive community that is free from negativity where all those people come together who, at some point in their lives, have been put down by the judgemental society. Considering the commendable work she has been doing, she deserves every bit of our love and respect!
